Santa Clara Welcomes New Assistant AD for Sports Administration and Student Services

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University has hired Carl Reed as assistant athletic director for sports administration and student services.

Reed, who will join the Santa Clara staff this month, comes from the University of Southern California where he had worked since May 2013 as the assistant athletic director, general manager of the Galen Center.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity to work at Santa Clara University and to become a member of its campus community," Reed said. "Santa Clara is a top academic institution and the future plans for the department of athletics is exciting. I look forward to working with a talented list of coaches, staff and student athletes. I would like to thank [director of athletics] Renee Baumgartner for this opportunity and can't wait to work alongside the senior staff."

At USC, Reed supervised and administered all event operations including non-athletic events and award shows at the Galen Center. He helped generate $1.3 million in revenue annually and was responsible for marketing and promoting the Galen Center to outside advertisers, university staff and the public.

"We are excited to have another veteran administrator join our staff," Baumgartner said. "Carl brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Santa Clara Athletics. He will be a great administrator and we are looking forward to his leadership and mentoring of our student-athletes."

At Santa Clara, Reed will oversee men's and women's water polo, men's and women's tennis as well as men's and women's rowing as a sport administrator. In regards to student services, Reed will oversee the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and serve as a liaison to student life and the office of housing.

Prior to USC, he was the facilities manager of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena from September 2011 to May 2013. He managed the day-to-day operations as well as directed maintenance and renovation for both facilities.

He was the director of athletics at Cal State University, Channel Islands from 2009 to 2011 and spearheaded the development and creation of the intercollegiate athletics program for the university.

Reed worked as the assistant athletic director of facilities, operations and events at Stanford from 2003 to 2009.

He directed the grand opening of the Jenny Craig Pavilion when he worked at the University of San Diego from 2000 to 2003.

Reed earned his master's of arts in health physical education and recreation from St. Mary's College after earning his bachelors of arts in government from there as well.
