Santa Clara Welcomes New Assistant AD for Sports Medicine

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University has hired Ryan Holleman as assistant athletic director for sports medicine.

Holleman, who will join the Santa Clara staff this month, comes from North Carolina State University where he had worked since August 2010, and has been the head athletic trainer since October 2011.

"I am extremely excited to join Santa Clara University and the Bronco athletics family," Holleman said. "I want to thank [director of athletics] Renee Baumgartner and [senior associate athletic director] Staci Gustafson for entrusting me to lead the sports medicine department into the future. I look forward to creating an environment and a program that provides the highest level of athletic health care to our student-athletes and is a model for other Division I sports medicine programs."

At NC State, Holleman provided athletic training services to the men's basketball and was a senior associate member of the sports medicine staff. He assisted the associated athletic director of sports medicine with the daily operation of the department. He supervised assigned staff and graduate assistants. Holleman was tasked with scheduling all on-campus physician clinics and drug testing coordinator. He coordinated and assisted with departmental hires among many other things.

"My staff and I are thrilled for our student-athletes and coaches that Ryan Holleman has decided to join the Bronco family," Baumgartner said. "Student-athlete welfare is a top priority and we have a leader that will center his energy on the health and safety of each and every student-athlete. His tremendous experience, knowledge and passion are critical components needed to help our student-athletes reach their goals and compete at the highest level."

Prior to NC State, Holleman was the assistant athletic trainer at High Point University from June 2009 to August 2010.

He was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he worked with the football and baseball teams from August 2007 to May 2009.

Holleman interned as an athletic trainer for the University of Virginia and assisted with daily operations involving treatments and rehab while traveling with women's lacrosse in 2007.

He earned his bachelor of science in athletic training from Western Carolina University in 2007. Holleman then earned his masters in educational administration in 2009 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is currently completing his doctor of athletic training degree through the Arizona School of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University.
