SANTA CLARA, Calif.
– Jake Brodt of baseball and Morgan McGwire of women's basketball were named Broncos of the Month for February by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Brodt was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week and the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week on Feb. 20.

In game two of the season opening series against Boston College on Feb. 17, Brodt hit two grand slams in one inning, becoming just the seventh Division I player to accomplish the feat since the NCAA began keeping records in 1957.  The senior from Huntington Beach, California, is the first to record the feat since T.J. Soto of Louisiana Tech did it against Western Kentucky in 2000.

For the series, the six-foot-five first baseman hit safely in all three games batting .462 (6-for-13) with a slugging percentage of 1.231.

The grand slams were featured on ESPN's SportsCenter.

The Broncos are back in action Thursday and Friday at home against Sacramento State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. for both games.

McGwire finished her Santa Clara career at the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas last week by playing in her 121st game, the most in the history of the program

She finished her career second all-time in blocks with 114 and third with 831 rebounds. She became just the 24th Bronco with 1,000 career points with her layup against Pacific on Feb. 1

McGwire led the Broncos in points (10.3 pg), rebounds (9.2 pg), steals (2.2 pg), and blocks (1.8 pg) this season. She is second in the WCC in rebounds and blocks and fifth in steals.
