SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara's Red and White Hall of Fame Celebration honors the past and recognizes many of the great accomplishments of current student-athletes.
The sixth annual event, which was presented by Heritage Bank of Commerce, was held Saturday in Leavey Center and saw the induction of seven to the Hall of Fame, the bestowment of senior awards and acknowledgement of the men's soccer program, which had its 50th anniversary in the fall.
This year's hall of fame class of seven included Bryan Barker (football), Tony Tebbutt (men's soccer), Terry Malley (football), Fran Mullins (baseball), Jim Nicholas (men's basketball), George Stein (men's basketball/baseball), and Lisa Swendsen (women's basketball).

Nicholas and Stein were inducted posthumously and the other five were on hand.
Women's soccer, which advanced to the third round of last fall's NCAA Tournament, took home four of the 12 awards highlighted by Gudrun Arnardottir who won the Henry Schmidt Award as the top senior female athlete of the year.
Hayden Shieh of men's golf captured the Victor Corsiglia Award as the top senior male athlete of 2017-18. He has led the Broncos to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 12 seasons.
2018 Santa Clara Athletics Senior Awards
Jim Jennings Award
• Paul Kozel (sports medicine)
Senior non student-athlete for his or her service to the athletics department. The award is in honor of Jim Jennings who served as a volunteer in Santa Clara Athletics for more than 20 years.
Pat Malley Award
• Kellie Peay (women's soccer)
• Joey Berriatua (men's cross country/track and field)
One male and one female senior student-athlete who best demonstrate the qualities, character, competitive spirit and will to excel on and off the field of competition. The award is in honor of former football coach and director of athletics Pat Malley.
DJ Frandsen Award
• Evan Haberle (baseball)
A male or female student-athlete who used courage, perseverance and spirit to overcome adversity and now serves as a role model for inspiration. The award is in honor of former men's basketball manager David Frandsen Jr. who inspired many with his battle with cancer which ultimately claimed his life.
Jim Shea Award
• Hannah Wood (women's cross country/track and field)
In years past, this award was bestowed to the most courageous football player. It now recognizes one male or female student-athlete who has courageously led his or her team through selfless actions and been a leader in the campus community. Jim Shea was the first Santa Clara student-athlete whose life was cut short while serving in the Vietnam War.
Carroll Williams Award
• Hailai Arghandiwal (women's soccer)
A senior who bests defines what it means to be a Santa Clara student-athlete. Someone who excels in the classroom and on the athletically while making an outstanding contribution in community service.
Senior Academic Award
• Kat Uhl (women's soccer) - 3.93 GPA
• Brynn Sargent (men's cross country/track and field) - 3.96 GPA
Presented to the male and female senior student-athletes with the highest grade-point averages.
James D. Farwell Award
• Emmanuel Ndumanya (men's basketball)
• Kirsten Mead (volleyball)
Awarded annually to one male and one female student-athlete who best combine academic and athletic excellence (minimum: 3.30 GPA). James Farwell was the longtime Santa Clara men's and women's rowing coach.
Henry Schmidt Award
• Gudrun Arnardottir (women's soccer)
Given annually to the school's top senior female student-athlete. Henry Schmidt was the first Santa Clara's athletic trainer, a position he held for 50 years.
Victor Corsiglia Award
• Hayden Shieh (men's golf)
Given annually to the school's top senior male student-athlete. Victor Corsiglia was the longtime supporter of Santa Clara Athletics.
