PROVO, Utah. – While one class of Santa Clara University student-athletes were donning their caps and gowns and preparing to receive their diplomas, three future graduates were representing the Broncos at Brigham Young University.
Rising senior student-athletes Hannah Buck, Anna McCreadie, and Jack Larkin were selected to represent SCU at the West Coast Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Summit last week. Each student-athlete is a representative for his or her team. The three student-athletes convened with student-athletes from the other nine schools in the league.
The summit began at noon on Thursday when the student-athletes heard from BYU president Kevin J Worthen. The other speakers throughout the summit included Qualtrics CEO Ryan Smith, WCC Commissioner Gloria Nevarez, and professional basketball player Jimmer Fredette.
"The WCC SAAC Leadership Summit was an incredible opportunity to learn from not only the array of excellent speakers, but also from fellow student-athletes from universities throughout the conference," said McCreadie. "I really enjoyed my experience and made lasting friendships that will carry forward as our SAAC strives to implement the things we learned."

On Friday, the student-athletes traveled to Salt Lake City to work on a community service project with the Salt Lake City Welfare Square. The representatives helped create and package hundreds of sanitation kits that are sent to people in need all over the United States.
"I think having the opportunity to serve the community while we are at the leadership summit is truly special," said Buck. "It was amazing to see the impact the Welfare Square has in providing job training to immigrants and refugees, but also making school and hygiene kits to distribute around the US, which is what we got to do while visiting the center."
Saturday marked the end of the summit, with a morning of workshops and discussion on how student-athletes can improve the WCC and institutions in it. Buck, McCreadie, and Larkin each returned to SCU Saturday afternoon ready to take the reins from the graduating Broncos and to implement all they had learned from the Leadership Summit.
