Athletics Hall of Fame Profile: Kevin Dunton

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Bronco Bench Foundation and Santa Clara Athletics will induct the 2019 Hall of Fame class at the Red & White Celebration on Saturday, May 18. The class features nine student-athletes across three sports, including baseball player Kevin Dunton.

Dunton began his career at Santa Clara in 1983, earning a spot on an experienced varsity baseball team. Over the next four years, Dunton set numerous records, including setting the career home run mark with 38, which still stands. He remains in the top 10 in seven offensive categories.

He is also No. 1 in extra base hits (96), No. 2 in total bases (420) and doubles (56), No. 3 in RBIs (178) and at-bats (873), and No. 6 in runs scored (151).

On the single season list, Dutton is No. 6 in home runs (14, 1985), No. 8 in total bases (136, 1985), and No. 9 in RBIs (60, 1985).

After his successful career at Santa Clara, Dunton went on to join the Montreal Expos organization and play for two seasons in the minor leagues.

The native of Atherton, California, came to Santa Clara after a standout career at Menlo-Atherton High School. Dunton was inducted to the Menlo-Atherton Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.

The program will also include senior awards for current student-athletes, as well as recognition of endowment benefactors and the 1962-72 period of baseball that featured six conference titles and a College World Series appearance in 1962.
