NCAA APR Recognition for Record 10 Santa Clara Athletics Programs

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released its public recognition awards for Division I teams with outstanding Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores and one half of Santa Clara's sports were on the list, the most-ever for the school since the initiative's inception.

The following 10 programs scored in the top 10 percent nationally of their sport in the most recent APR results:
• Beach volleyball
• Men's cross country
• Men's tennis
• Men's track and field
• Volleyball
• Women's cross country
• Women's golf
• Women's tennis
• Women's track and field
• Women's water polo

Santa Clara, which has 20 Division I programs, was tied for first among West Coast Conference schools with Gonzaga. Pepperdine was third with eight. The total for the Broncos eclipsed their prior all-time best of eight last year.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.

APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000. It marked the eighth year in a row earning public recognition for Santa Clara women's tennis, seventh for women's golf, sixth for women's cross country and fifth for women's track and field, third for beach volleyball and second for men's track and field.

Women's water polo earned its first recognition since 2016-17, but has been on the list in all but three of the 15 years of tracking APR. Men's tennis earned a spot for the first time and men's cross country and volleyball both made their second appearance (also 2004-05) on the list.

The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

Scores for all Division I teams will be released May 19.
