Impressive Results for Santa Clara Athletics in NCAA APR Report

INDIANAPOLIS – Santa Clara Athletics set department records with its best-ever overall performance and nine teams posting a perfect score on the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate report, a real-time measurement for academic success at Division I institutions.

The school's previous record for scoring 1,000 was seven in 2016-17. Last week, it was announced Santa Clara also set a department record with 10 teams receiving public recognition awards for finishing in the top 10-percent nationally for their sport.

According to the data for 2018-19, Santa Clara had an overall multi-year rate of 993, its highest since the inception of the NCAA's initiative 15 years ago.

The following nine programs received a perfect score:
• Men's cross country
• Men's tennis
• Men's track and field
• Volleyball   
• Women's cross country
• Women's golf   
• Women's tennis   
• Women's track and field
• Women's water polo

Every Santa Clara program scored 969 or greater. It was the 12th season in a row with a perfect score for women's track and field, eighth for women's tennis, seventh for women's golf and sixth for women's cross country. Men's cross country and volleyball earned their second perfect score and it was the first for both men's tennis and men's track and field. Women's water polo posted a score of 1,000 for the 12th time.

The most recent academic year included in the numbers was the 2018-19 year that saw Bronco Athletics shine. Santa Clara is also coming off its best term in recent memory in the classroom with a 3.37 winter quarter grade-point average.

The last three year's overall multi-rate APR are the highest on record for the school. The score was 990 in both 2016-17 and 2017-18.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.


The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
