  • Track Closes out Season at Portland Twilight

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Santa Clara track concluded its 2015 regular season Sunday at Eldon Fix Track as part of the Portland Twilight Meet. Graduate student Kurt Ruegg posted the second-fastest 5000 meter time of his career, which was also his fastest time with the Broncos, by running a 14:36.70 as one of four Santa Clara runners to compete in the event.

  • Going Cross-Country with Kurt Ruegg

    Kurt Ruegg (KR) finished off his time at Harvard with a degree in Neurobiology, a 30th place finish at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and a desire to come back to the west coast for one more year of competitive running. After a former Bronco coach recommended SCU for the Yountville native’s final season of NCAA eligibility, Ruegg was quick to jump on the opportunity and seamlessly transitioned into the role of one of SCU’s top runners. Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) had the chance to meet up with Ruegg and discuss his running career and even get some insight how he’s learned to love the nickname “Uncle Kurt.”

    SAN FRANCISCO — Santa Clara track set one school record and seven personal bests marks at the West Coast Last Chance Meet Saturday at Cox Stadium. The Broncos spread their personal best marks across six different events, including Grayson Murphy lowering her own school record in the 3000m steeplechase.

    SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara track heads north to Berkeley, Calif. for the Brutus Hamilton Open and Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The majority of Bronco runners will participate in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m races Friday, and Joey Berriatua is the lone Bronco to compete on Saturday; he will take part in the 1 mile run.

    WALNUT, Calif./AZUSA, Calif. — Santa Clara track capped another successful weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational with six of 12 runners setting personal best marks, including Mary Kriege’s school record 10k run and Joey Berriatua’s school record 1500 meter run. Kriege is the Santa Clara record holder in the 3k, 5k, and 10k track events.
  • Track Strives for NCAA Preliminary Qualifying Times this Week

    SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara track will split its racing between the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. this weekend. Several Bronco runners are looking to qualify for the NCAA Preliminary meet with their times at the Mt. SAC relays Thursday and Friday.

  • Track Sets Two School Records at SF State Distance Carnival

    SAN FRANCISCO — Two Santa Clara runners broke school records and two more set personal best marks during the SF State Distance Carnival at Cox Stadium Friday. Grayson Murphy became the first Bronco female runner to break the 11-minute mark in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Mary Kriege became the first Bronco female runner to break the 17-minute mark in the 5000 meter race.

  • Women's Tennis, Men's Cross Country Lead Department GPA In Winter 2015 Quarter

    Achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 24th time in 25 quarters, the Santa Clara Bronco Athletic Department also saw eight student-athletes achieve a 4.0 GPA in the Winter of 2015. The Bronco student-athletes recorded a 3.120 GPA and boast a 3.141 cumulative GPA as well. The Broncos have scored a 3.0 or better GPA 22 straight quarters dating back to the Winter 2008 quarter.
  • Track Heads to the City for SF State Distance Carnival

    SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara track travels to San Francisco State's Cox Stadium for the SF State Distance Carnival Friday. The Broncos will compete in nine different events between the men's and women's teams, including a trio of men's runners in the 10000 meter race. "With the winter quarter and finals now behind us, and the timing of this meet, this is really the start of track season," assistant coach Pete Cushman said.

    TURLOCK, Calif. — Santa Clara track had its highest volume of runners compete in a 2015 spring meet when a total of 27 Broncos ran in seven different events at the Kim Duyst Invitational Saturday at Cal State Stanislaus. In her 3000 meter steeplechase debut, Grayson Murphy set a school record time of 11:03.93.

  • Three Broncos PR, Men Win Distance Medley Relay with School Record Time at West Coast Invitational and Relays

    ORINDA, Calif. — In its second overall event and first outdoor meet of the 2015 season, Santa Clara track produced a good showing at the West Coast Invitational and West Coast Relays last Saturday and Sunday in Orinda, Calif. The four-man relay team of Joey Berriatua, Nicholas Mantovani, Kurt Ruegg and Adam Vare set a school record by running a 10:13.20 in the Distance Medley Relay and three Broncos recorded personal best times in their respective 3000 meter races.

    Santa Clara men's cross country/track participated in an immersion trip to Navajo Nation in Tuba City, Ariz. last winter. The team captured its experience via GoPro and passed the shots along to EYEBRONCO to help tell the story. Santa Clara runner Bryan Crook: "We did a service project and organized a fun run, but most of our time was spent getting to know the community, their history, aspects of traditional Navajo culture, hardships of reservation life as well as the spiritual significance running has for the Navajo. While there we had the opportunity to train on some beautiful high desert trails and bond as a team."

    After being sidelined with an injury for the past five and a half months, Hannah Peterson (HP) is going into her senior season on the women’s track team with more motivation than ever before. As she works to get back to full health, Peterson discussed her road to recovery as well as her legacy on the team with Santa Clara Broncos (SCB).
