SANTA CLARA, Calif.- Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) welcomed several freshmen to the cross country and track team this year including Greer Chrisman (GC). During a recent interview, we spoke with an optimistic Greer about beginning her first college track season as a Bronco.

SCB: How has the offseason prepared you for the upcoming track season?

GC: The offseason gives us a chance to recuperate from the cross country season but also build a base and get excited for the upcoming track season.

SCB: Which events will you be competing in this season? Are you excited or nervous for any?

GC: I will be competing in the 800 meters in the spring. I am nervous because I have not competitively run this distance before, having previously run hurdles in high school. However, I am excited because it is something new and different.

SCB: What are your goals for track season?

GC: My goals for the track season are to progressively set personal records in the 800, to earn a spot on the relays, and to stay healthy.

SCB: How do you keep yourself focused before and during races?

GC: Before races I stick to the same routine to help myself prepare and feel confident for my race. During the race, focusing on myself and how I feel while I'm running helps keep other runners from distracting me.

SCB: Because cross country and track are sometimes seen as individual sports, what is the team dynamic like and how does the team support one another?

GC: The team dynamic is great, we all get along very well. Cross country and track are unique experiences because we spend practices together but are able to compete individually. We provide support by training and pushing each other during our runs and also encouraging one other in workouts.
