Track Notches More Personal Bests at Johnny Mathis Invite

SAN FRANCISCO — Five Santa Clara track runners set personal best marks Saturday at Cox Stadium as part of the Johnny Mathis Invitational. The Broncos competed in seven different events between the men's and women's teams, with a pair of runners doubling up for multiple events.

"We had a lot of notable performances," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Just about everyone competed really well."

Women's 800m Final

Amia Nash — 2:21.01 (11th place)

Hannah Wood – 2:22.48

Women's 1500m Final

Mary Kriege — 4:38.82 (6th place, Personal Best)

Coach Montoro: "Mary Kriege turned a corner a few weeks ago in her training after finally being able to string together some consistent workouts and running volume. She showed she is ready for a really competitive 5k in a few weeks with an 11-second PR over 1500m."

Hannah Wood — 4:44.14 (Personal Best)

Coach Montoro: "Freshman Hannah Wood continues to impress, she had another great double and set a personal best at 1500m."

Amia Nash — 4:50.34 (Personal Best)

Coach Montoro: "Senior Amia Nash also ran well in the 1500m, setting a personal best at 4:50. I am looking forward to her first fresh 800m in a few weeks."

Kaitlyn Kuehn — 4:55.24

Marisa Rudolph — 5:12.45

Women's 5000m Final

Grayson Murphy — 17:52.74 (6th place)

Coach Montoro: "Freshman Graysee Murphy has run three different events in her first three collegiate track meets. Her debut at 5000m of 17:52 was really impressive and more importantly she was mixing it up with some very accomplished runners."

Allison Martinez — 19:01.80

Women's 400m Hurdles Final

Greer Chrisman — 1:10.16 (9th place)

Men's 800m Final

Joey Berriatua — 1:54.60 (2nd place)

Coach Montoro: "Joey Berriatua looked like himself in the 800m after being sick for a few weeks, which was a great sign. He now has a few weeks to sharpen up for a great effort over the mile distance back at SF State."

Men's 1500m Final

Joey Berriatua – 3:54.55 (2nd Place)

Men's 5000m Final

Andrew Melendez — 15:17.55 (24th place, Personal Best)

Coach Montoro: "Freshman Andrew Melendez ran about a 30 best of 5000m and looked really strong, it was definitely his best effort as a Bronco."

Peter Stephens — 15:31.18

The Broncos take next weekend off, and will compete at the San Francisco State distance Carnival April 3 as well as the Stanford Invitational April 3-4.
