Track Heads to the City for SF State Distance Carnival

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara track travels to San Francisco State's Cox Stadium for the SF State Distance Carnival Friday. The Broncos will compete in nine different events between the men's and women's teams, including a trio of men's runners in the 10000 meter race.

"With the winter quarter and finals now behind us, and the timing of this meet, this is really the start of track season," assistant coach Pete Cushman said.

SANTA CLARA SCHEDULE (In order of events)

Men's 10000m: Andrew Melendez, Tony Ferrari, Noah Westfall

Women's 1500m: Hannah Wood, Kaitlyn Kuehn, Marisa Rudolph, Camille Dyer

Men's 1500m: Sean Roe, Matt Burke

Women's 3000m Steeplechase: Grayson Murphy

Women's 800m: Amia Nash, Meg Webber, Kaitlyn Kuehn, Greer Chrisman, Karen Mac, Hannah Peterson

Men's 800m: Adam Vare, Nicholas Mantovani, Andrew Gaddis

Men's 1 Mile: Joey Berriatua

Women's 5000m: Mary Kriege, Elsa Valenzuela, Kelly Ryan, Audrey Hiatt, Allison Martinez

Men's 5000m: Kurt Ruegg, Ryan Greenough, Peter Stephens, Will Burschinger, Matt Burke, Sean Roe

"Fortunately this is such a competitive track weekend in the Bay Area, and we're lucky to have such a great opportunity to face these high level fields in our back yard. This weekend will set the tone for the season ahead.

"This is when marks on the descending order become relevant. For us, we have some people thinking about that nationals list and making it to the first round in Austin, and it all starts with a good race here. The level of competition sets us up to run fast, and now we just need to take advantage of the opportunities."
