STANFORD, Calif./SAN FRANCISCO — Santa Clara track and field turned in strong performances across the board during its unofficial start to the outdoor season on Friday. Mary Kriege took a step toward NCAA Preliminary Meet qualification at the Stanford Invitational and nine Broncos ran personal best times at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

STANFORD INVITATIONAL

Kriege bested her own 10000m school record by 32 seconds with a 34:40. That time has consistently qualified for NCAA Prelims in past seasons.

"I was very happy with our team's efforts," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "We're not 100 percent sure Mary is in yet, but it's close. She will try to hit a mark in the 5000m in two weeks down at Mt. SAC."

SAN FRANCISCO STATE DISTANCE CARNIVAL

800m

PRs: Julia Wood, Karen Mac, Jeffrey Stalun

Coach Montoro: "All four of the women who competed in the 800m executed their races well today. Carson Bode looked the best he has all year and Brynn Sargent continues to win races."

1500m

PRs: Jean-Baptiste Tooley, Ross Corey

Coach Montoro: "JB and Ross have been looking very good in practice and both ran new personal bests. JB almost won his heat as well."

5000m

PRs: Grayson Murphy (Second-fastest time in program history), Andrew Melendez, Will Burschinger, Wilder Boyden

Coach Montoro: "Graysee Murphy had the race of the day for the 5k athletes. Heather also had a good day hanging on really well in a fast heat for a seasonal best of 17:46.

"Will just keeps getting better and better, I'm looking forward to his next race. Evan Misuraca didn't have his best day, but he ran tough. Wilder gets the tough guy award though for racing the entire 5k with one shoe, having had it stepped on and taken off on the first lap. He still managed to run a three-second PR. Jack Prazich just missed his PR but raced tough, as usual. We held out Bryan Crook as a precaution but he will be back in action at Mt. SAC."
