WALNUT, Calif./AZUSA, Calif. — Santa Clara track & field made its second bid for the postseason as part of a two-event weekend in Southern California. Grayson Murphy bested her own school record in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Mt. SAC relays with a 10:24.03.

Murphy was one of 10 Broncos to race between Mt. SAC and the Bryan Clay Invitational.

"Graysee accomplished her goal of running a mark that would hold up for NCAA round one qualifying," head coach Felipe Montoro said. She controlled the pace and nearly got the heat win, just getting clipped at the line. We can now shift her focus to getting through the next round and on to the National Finals."

Mary Kriege ran a physical 5000m race for a 16:37.68 at Mt. SAC. She came within less than three seconds of her career-best mark, which was set at this year's Husky Classic.

"Mary was pushed around a lot and had to do quite a bit of extra work moving around in the pack," Montoro said. "She still managed to run a great race, but most importantly gained valuable experience for the postseason."

Jean-Baptiste Tooley set a personal best mark with a 3:55.42 in the 1500m at Mt. SAC and got a second run later on at Bryan Clay. Corey ran twice at Bryan Clay — setting a personal best with a 1:55.22 in the 800m and finished roughly a second off his 1500m collegiate low time.

"Jean-Baptiste also had a very productive trip and Ross continued to progress with a great double," Montoro said.

Will Burschinger, Evan Misuraca and Jeffrey Stalun each posted their fastest times as Broncos in the 1500m.

The Broncos will race again on Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley.
