LOS ANGELES — Santa Clara track & field continued to rewrite its record book Saturday at the Oxy Collegiate Invitational. Mary Kriege and Grayson Murphy ran the top two 5000m times in program history to finish in fifth and seventh place, respectively, in the field of 71 runners.

Kriege's 16:24.22 is 13 seconds faster than her own previous school record, set back at the Husky Classic in February. Murphy, running in the 5000 for just the third time as a Bronco, posted a 16:26.70. Both times are likely to hold up for NCAA Preliminary Meet qualification.

"I'm very pleased with our trip to Oxy," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Mary and Graysee were incredible. Every athlete that made the trip was engaged and competitive. Conditions were amazing, the competition was outstanding and our athletes responded."

Two freshmen lowered personal-best times at 1500: Jean-Baptiste Tooley (3:54.44) and Ross Corey (3:58.76 — his first sub-4:00 time in the event). Brynn Sargent also ran his fastest 800m (1:56.58) while Hannah Wood, who continues her recovery from an injury last fall, ran a 1:18.73 in the 800m. Matt Burke set a new collegiate-low time by 0.34 seconds in the 5000m (15:28.02).
