Santa Clara Senior Named WCC Runner of the Month

Oct. 26, 2000

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University senior Charlie Brenneman (Roseville, Calif.) was honored Thursday as the West Coast Conference Cross Country Men's Runner of the month, the league office announced.

Brenneman set two school records and went undefeated against West Region opponents during the month of October and led his team to the championship of the Bronco Invitational two weeks ago in Belmont, Calif. He paced the field with an 8K time of 25:55, which was almost :20 seconds better than his previous school best on the course set last year. The Broncos have won two team titles in four meets this season, while Brenneman has served as the team's leader in each race.

"Charlie is certainly deserving of a broad range of honors," said Bronco head men's cross country coach John Maloney. "What is most important is that winning awards is a reflection of the type of season he is having. Knowing Charlie, he won't be happy until he performs well when it counts - at the WCC Championships this weekend and at the NCAA regionals and NCAA championships next month. He is in a great position to do well at all three meets."

The WCC championships for both the men and women are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 at Crystal Springs.
