Nine Broncos Post Strong Results at Shoreline

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Nine Bronco runners competed at the Shoreline Invitational on Saturday as the teams prepared for the West Coast Conference Championships, which will be held at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont, Calif. on October 30.

Four women raced for Santa Clara as Tara Rooney was the Broncos' top finisher in a time of 20:19 to finish 41st overall. Kristen Morse and Erin Davis crossed the line back-to-back as Morse posted a time of 21:16 to place 58th. Davis was 59th in a 5,000-meter time of 21:21. Carrie Pogorelc placed 74th in a time of 23:45.

On the men's side, Santa Clara sent five athletes to Shoreline Park. Nick Arcelona was the top SCU finisher for the men in a time of 24:03 to place 36th. Omar Ahmad finsihed 42nd in a time of 24:12. Daniel Bettencourt had a strong showing in his first competition since September 11, finishing 54th in a 8,000-meter time of 24:44. Freshmen Brady Pivirotto and Chris Furnari rounded out the Bronco competitiors. Pivirotto placed 66th in a time of 25:27, while Furnari was 68th in a time of 25:38.

Both full squads will compete this weekend in the WCC Championships in Belmont, Calif. The first race is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
