SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara cross country and track head coach Tom Service announced Friday the addition of junior college transfer Josh Hernandez to the cross country roster for 2008.
"We expect Josh's success at West Valley College to transfer over well to the Division I level," said assistant coach Felipe Montoro. "He is a talented and dedicated athlete who is well prepared to have an immediate impact in the middle distances here at SCU. Having followed his career since high school, we are pleased to have him join us next fall."
Hernandez comes to the Mission Campus from West Valley Junior College where he ran for head coach Lisa Renteria. In 2008, while at West Valley JC, he placed fifth at the California JC State meet in the 1500m. In 2007, he placed eighth in the same event at the California JC State meet and took ninth place at the Junior College NorCal Championships. During his junior college campaign, Hernandez set personal records of 1:54.91 in the 800-meter race and 3:58.29 in the 1500-meter race.
The Bronco Cross Country team begins the 2008 season on August 30 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
