Cross Country's Noelle Lopez gets ready for Sacramento State this weekend

Sept. 10, 2008

Noelle Lopez is a senior on the women's cross country. After spending time near Santa Cruz last week with the team at 'running camp', Lopez is getting ready to run at the Hornet Jamboree in Sacramento on Fri., Sept. 12. Lopez is a Philosphy major who came to SCU from Tucson, Ariz.

Meet Noelle Lopez!

SCU: If you were stranded on a desert island, what is one thing you would want to have:

Lopez: My glasses so that I could see and start fires.

SCU: If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy?

Lopez: Application fees for grad school. And then maybe a bicycle.

SCU: What's your favorite quote?

Lopez: "The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it." - John Ruskin

SCU: What is your greatest accomplishment?

Lopez: In college, probably sticking with running through long bouts of injury and finally being able to compete and set PRs last spring during track season. I look forward to my first full cross-country season as a Bronco this year. I was also happy to receive several fellowships that I applied for through the university.

SCU: Any nicknames?

Lopez: "Noelle"

SCU: What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

Lopez: I had lots of favorites: Doug, Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Ahh! Real Monsters, The Ninja Turtles, and the list could go on...

SCU: Favorite movie?

Lopez: I never get tired of Sister Act, Mrs. Doubtfire, or A Christmas Story.

SCU: What are your goals this season?

Lopez: To stay healthy, continue training and racing consistently and be a dependable scorer for the team. I really just want to have fun and enjoy my senior year running competitively (and set some PRs of course).

SCU: What is something no one knows about you?

Lopez: At various times when I was young, I really wanted to be a Ninja Turtle, an electrical engineer, a Tae Kwon Do instructor, an actress and a person that does cartoon voices when I grew up.

SCU: Where will you be in 10 years?

Lopez: Hopefully teaching philosophy and studying ethics. I'll still be running - maybe I'll be training for a marathon, or at least a half.

SCU: What was your favorite event in the Olympics?

Lopez: The marathon.

SCU: If you could run any road race in the world, where would it be?

Lopez: Some place with pretty roads, nice weather and not too many people. Maybe a smallish race in the Northwest or back East during the fall when the leaves are changing colors.

SCU: What's the best part of being a Bronco?

Lopez: The emphasis put on being a balanced student-athlete and all of the amazing athletes, coaches, administators and of course teammates that I've met here at Santa Clara.
