SCU Lands Eight On WCC Fall All-Academic Teams; 11 More Earn Honorable Mention

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The WCC Fall All-Academic teams were released today by the West Coast Conference and Santa Clara boasts 19 student-athletes on the list; eight divided amongst the teams and another 11 receiving honorable mention. Only one other school, Portland, placed more student-athletes on the conference's all-academic lists than Santa Clara.

In men's cross country, Austin Jones (3.84, Engineering), Kevin Oliver (3.94, Biology), and Matt Savage (3.86, Undeclared) were given first team honors while Marcos Hinojosa received honorable mention.  Jones and Savage were WCC All-Academic honorable mentions last season.

In women's cross country four players received honors.  Stephanie Wilson (3.90, English) was the lone student-athlete selected to the all-academic team, her third-overall WCC All-Academic award in her career. Meghan McNamara, Melissa Conlin, and Mary Reynolds received honorable mention. This is the second year in a row Conlin has been an honorable mention.

In volleyball, Tanya Schmidt (3.96, English) garnered team honors while Dana Knudsen and Kayla Lommori were honorable mention. Schmidt was honorable mention in 2009 while Knudsen received her second consecutive honorable mention.

Eric Masch of men's soccer collected his second-consecutive all-academic team distinction while Kevin Klasila was honorable mention.

Finally, in women's soccer, Margueritte Aozasa and Bianca Henninger were selected to the all-academic team.  Receiving honorable mention was Maxine Goynes, Olivia Klei, Bridgett Miller, and Kendra Perry.  Henninger and Perry were both honorable mention in 2009.

Both Wilson and Schmidt posted the highest grade-point-averages on their respective all-academic teams.
