The Broncos Race Last Weekend Video!
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Entering its second week of competition with a healthy team up and down the roster, the Santa Clara cross country team will run at the Hornet Jamboree in Sacramento Sat., Sept. 10.
Prior to this week's competition Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro talked with www.SantaClaraBroncos.com to talk about the season, what's on tap and what they are working on early in the season.
SCU: You ran a limited squad last weekend. Where you pleased?
FM: Yes, I thought that the team that competed last weekend did what we set out to do.
SCU: What did you want them to get out of running the first weekend?
FM: We wanted to work on budgeting their effort evenly over the entire race and for the freshmen it was a great opportunity to get things started.
SCU: Did you accomplish this?
FM: Yes, we are looking to build on their effort this week in Sacramento.
SCU: Who is looking good in practice right now?
FM: We have only been together since the third week of August so we haven't done enough workouts yet to make that accurate of an assessment. But, it is clear that as a group they did a lot of work this summer and are very fit.
SCU: When is your go on a training trip.
FM: We will be leaving on Mon., Sept. 12 to camp at New Brighton State Beach for a few nights. That is always a highlight of preseason.
SCU: Who has been a pleasant surprise this fall?
FM: I am encouraged with the progress of a lot of our returners on both teams. Training so far has been very encouraging. Also, even though we have 14 new members on the team, their assimilation has been seamless so far.
