The Bronco women's cross country team finished as the runner-up at the Charles Bowles Invitational at Wilmette University in Oregon on Saturday.  Chico State was the winner on both sides.

"We are at the Portland airport with smiles on our faces as we had what I would consider a breakthrough performance for our women's team," said assistant coach Chantelle Wilder.

"We executed our team goal of running together with only 14 seconds separating our scoring runners (1-5)," added Wilder. "Our average team time (top 5) was 18:22! We look forward to improving upon this performance when we race our top women again at the Bronco Invite on October 15."

Leading the Bronco charch was freshman Mary Kriege and junior Mary Reynolds, both finishing in a time of 18:17. Erin McCarthy finished in 18:22.57 to be the Broncos third runner. The fourth and fifth runners were Nicole Giove (18:24.17) and Hayley Ney (18:31.40).

Ney said "We accomplished all the goals that were set specifically for this weekend and even more!"

Freshman Kelly Ryan said "I got to experience running up with my teammates, it was a breakthrough race for me"
