The Bronco cross country teams ran in the 40th annual Stanford Invitational, with the men finishing seventh in the 8K.  They defeated West Coast Conference schools San Diego and Pepperdine.  The Bronco women were eighth, finishing in front of Pepperdine and Saint Mary's. Stanford won both of the College Invitationals.

Santa Clara takes a week off before it competes in the SF State Invitational on Oct. 11.  Looking forward, Santa Clara hosts the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 19 at Baylands Park.

"Both men's and women's teams had some solid individual performances," said Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro. "Both teams executed some parts of our race plan very well, but we still have things to improve upon as we continue through the season. The next three weeks will be very important in preparing for the WCC Championships."

The men were led by Ben Demaree, who finished 14th in 25:52. It was his first race this season after battling through injuries the past couple of years.  Luca Signore finished 21st at 26:08 with Moises Vengegas finishing in 25th place at 26:22.  Fast on their heels was Adrian Hinosjosa at 26:24.  Wrapping up the scoring for the Broncos as their fifth finisher was Sam Holeman, who finished 33rd at 26:33.  Bryan Crook was 41st at 26:43 and Ezana Tesfu was 44th at 26:56.

"Ben was impressive today, he has not had the smoothest last few years dealing with injuries," said Montoro. "But he has kept a great attitude and really embraced the changes we have had to make in his training to stay healthy. Another month of training will make a big difference in Ben's ability to perform at a high level in the post season."

On the women's side, Mary Kriege led the charge, finishing in 17th place at 22:18.  Lauren Germany placed 25th at 22:41.  Audrey Hiatt was third for Santa Clara, finishing in 46th place at 23:24.  Emily Robinson finished in 55th place at 23:38.  Rounding out the scoring for Santa Clara was Kelly Ryan, who placed 62nd at 23:53.  Kayla Germany (68th, 24:09) and Allison Maio (87th, 24:45) also competed for Santa Clara.

"Mary Kriege's performance really stood out today as well," said Montoro. "She got a late start this season in her training, but is still way ahead of where she was last year. It will be exciting for our team to see how much more she can improve over the next month."
