Cross Country Travels to San Francisco for S.F. State Invitational Friday

Continuing to prepare for the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 19, the Bronco cross country teams will compete at the S.F. State Invitational in San Francisco on Fri., Oct. 11.  The women will run a full team while the men's team will run just four runners so they won't have a team score.

The Broncos have had two weeks off since they competed at Stanford.  They have been using the time off to complete a number of challenging workouts, solid volume and long runs.  "From the data we are getting in practice, it would appear both teams are more than ready for the up- coming post season," said Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro.

Santa Clara will use this weekend's race as an opportunity to develop its competitive intelligence.  "This time of year is about racing well and building confidence in all the miles and workouts that went into preparing over the past few months for the post season," added Montoro.

Montoro is pleased with the training of Kelly Ryan and Emily Robinson as both have made some big strides in their fitness and confidence over the last few weeks.  "Our 3-4-5 scorers on the women's team will be crucial if we are to be competitive for a spot in the top half of the conference, so it is encouraging to see those two up with Audrey Hiatt, who has been our #3 all year, in workouts," said Montoro.

The men's team continues to work on pack running and Montoro likes what he sees right now.  "Like the women's team, our middle scorers will need to be at their best to finish well at WCC's, and I am looking forward to finding out who those guys will be," said Montoro.

Montoro is pleased with the progress of Adrian Hinojosa and also said seniors Luca Signore and Moises Venegas have been giving the team what they need right now.  "They are both giving us a lot of consistency," said Montoro.

As far as expectations this weekend, Montoro would like to see a number of the runners on both sides competing for a spot in the top 10.  "We also hope our women will also be competitive with their team score as well."

Go Broncos!
