Bronco Student-Athletes Top 3.0 GPA for 21st Time in 22 Quarters

With 11 Bronco student-athletes achieving a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) and 16 of the 19 Bronco teams scoring a 3.0 term GPA or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.138 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2014 quarter.  They also topped 3.0 or better for the 21st time in 22 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA of 3.080 continues to climb for its student-athletes as well.

In addition, 104 of the 333 Bronco student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher in the Winter 2014 quarter with 32 Bronco student-athletes collecting a 3.8 GPA or higher. After the Winter 2014 quarter, there are 67 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

"Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on their continuing academic achievements.  Thanks to our coaches and our academic services staff, Zoe Kranzler and Angela Munger, for their efforts in establishing a culture of high academic performance," said Santa Clara Athletic Director Dan Coonan.   

The women's tennis team posted the highest GPA at 3.452 for the Winter 2014 quarter.  Women's cross country has the highest cumulative GPA at 3.409.

"I am continually impressed with what our student-athletes accomplish on the court and in the classroom.   Winter quarter is always challenging with lots of travel and schedule changes.   Congrats to our team and to Zoe, Jeff and Angela for all of their help," said Bronco head women's tennis coach Ben Cabell.

For the ninth straight quarter, the men's cross country team had the highest term GPA.  The men's cross country team posted a 3.554 GPA in the Winter 2014 quarter and they also have the highest cumulative GPA at 3.403.

"Our student-athletes take a great deal of pride in their academic record. They work very hard to achieve their best results on and off the track. I couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments. It is also a testament to the great faculty and support staff that the Santa Clara community supports," said Bronco head men's cross country coach Felipe Montoro. 

Sixteen Bronco programs posted a 3.0 GPA or higher for the Winter 2014 quarter, with 13 teams posting a 3.1 GPA or higher. In addition, 16 teams have a 3.0 GPA or better as their cumulative GPA.

The 16 teams who posted a 3.0 or better GPA for the Winter 2014 quarter include: baseball, men's cross country, men's rowing, men's golf, men's track, men's soccer, men's tennis, men's water polo, women's golf, women's rowing, women's cross country, women's track, women's soccer, women's tennis, volleyball and women's water polo.
