The Santa Clara University men's cross country and track programs will welcome six new men to the team in 2014-15.  The incoming class consists of two transfers and four freshmen.  The signing class covers five states across all regions of the country.

"Both Pete and I are thrilled with this incoming class," said Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro. "This class brings a lot of balance, range and a number of student-athletes who have the ability to make an immediate impact this fall"

Andrew Melendez (Bishop O'Dowd High School, Oakland, Calif.)
Incoming freshman Andrew Melendez found success in both cross country and track in high school. Melendez placed fifth in the Stanford Invitational his senior year and he boasts cross country PR's of 15:30 at the Mt. Sac Invitational and 15:45 at the Clovis Invitational in Fresno, Calif. Melendez has track PR's of 4:27.07 (1600) and 9:30.17 (3200).

"Andrew was very well coached at Bishop O'Dowd and comes to Santa Clara well prepared for the next step in his development," said Montoro. "We are excited about his potential in the coming years, particularly in the longer distances."

Cooper Roach (Valley Catholic, Portland, Ore.)
Cooper Roach was a three-time 3A state champion on the track. Roach won the 1500m and 800m in 2013 and repeated as champion in the 1500m in 2014. He is also an accomplished cross country runner as he placed fifth in the 2013 3A championship race. Roach has track personal bests of 1:57.20 in the 800m, 4:03.81 in the 1500m and 9:04.50 in the 3000m.
"Cooper is a very talented runner with great range," said Montoro. "Most importantly he performs at his best in the post season as evidenced by his 3 state titles in track. Cooper is going to have a great career as a Bronco."

Kurt Ruegg (Harvard University)
Kurt Ruegg comes to Santa Clara University as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining.  As a undergraduate student-athlete at Harvard, Ruegg competed at the NCAA Cross Country National Championship and ran 14:38.04 and 30:18.30 on the track.  Ruegg, a California native, returns to his home state to complete a Master's degree in Bioengineering.

"We are really pleased that Kurt decided to use his final year of eligibility at Santa Clara," said Montoro. "He has NCAA Championship experience from his time at Harvard and will be an instant impact for us up front."

Adam Vare (Fairfield Prep, Fairfield, Conn.)
Incoming freshman Adam Vare, a former football player, turned to cross country after finding success in track and field during the spring.  Vare boasts an 800 meter PR of 1:54.81.

"Adam has great natural speed, he's a great athlete, and he has a desire to explore his limits as a distance runner," said Montoro.  "We are excited to have him joining our team."

Noah Westfall (Cherry Creek, Greenwood Village, Colo.)
Incoming freshman Noah Westfall hails from Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, Col.  Westfall highlighted his high school career with a 9th place finish at the Colorado State Championships his senior year, and ran 9:55 at altitude in the 3200 meters.

"Noah had a break out senior cross country season finishing 9th place in the very competitive Colorado 5A state meet," said Montoro. "Noah gets better the longer the race, so he is suited nicely for the collegiate distances."

Also joining the team is Nicholas Mantovani, a transfer from Johns Hopkins University.
