Cross Country Eyes Chance to ‘Sharpen Up’ at SF State Meet Friday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara cross country is set to send eight student-athletes — four men and four women — to Friday's San Francisco State Invitational at Speedway Meadow. The Broncos will not score either team in the event, which features a women's 6k and men's 8k run.  It marks the second time this season Santa Clara will race in Golden Gate Park, after competing there in the season-opening USF Invitational Aug. 30.

"This meet fits in perfectly for anyone who missed a race with illness or injury, and needs another opportunity to sharpen up before our home meet next week," assistant coach Pete Cushman said. "It's a good opportunity for a few people to work on some things with racing before we look to set our championship season squad.

"Last year, Elsa Valenzuela was able to use this meet to gain some momentum going into the Bronco Invite, and ultimately she vaulted her way into our conference roster. This meet is perfect for opportunities like that."
