Cross Country Starts Busy Stretch at SFSU Invitational Friday

MEET INFOLIVE RESULTS

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara cross country begins a stretch of competitions in four straight weeks at the San Francisco State Invitational Friday, Oct. 9 at Golden Gate Park's Hellman Hollow Meadow. The event starts with the women's 6k race at 3:30 p.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 4:15 p.m.

The two races feature the largest field in the history of the SFSU Invitational. There are 290 runners in each race, 25 men's teams and 28 women's teams overall.

Friday marks the third time in four races this season that the Broncos will run at Hellman Hollow Meadow. The Bronco women took fourth place of 13 teams and the men took fifth place of 13 teams at the season opening USF Invitational September 5. Two weeks later, the Bronco women defeated Saint Mary's in a dual meet and the Broncos had a pair of first place individual finishers in Grayson Murphy and Bryan Crook at the SFSU Quad Meet.

LINEUPS

MEN: Austin Blankenship, Matt Burke, Wilder Boyden, Jack Prazich, Noah Westfall

Burke, Boyden, Prazich and Westfall will run for the first since the SFSU Quad Meet, and Blankenship will run for the first time since the USF Invitational.

WOMEN: Julia Green, Kaitlyn Kuehn, Karen Mac, Allison Maio, Anika Renken, Marisa Rudolph, Elsa Valenzuela

Maio and Renken make their season debuts Friday; all other runners raced in the first two events of the season.

"Those athletes competing have not raced in a while, but have made significant improvements in practice," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Seeing if our athletes can translate those improvements in fitness to the race will be what I'm looking for. This is a very important meet from the perspective of finalizing our postseason rosters, as well as an opportunity to race against some quality competition."
