Men’s Cross Country Ranked 15th in USTFCCCA West Region

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara men's cross country has landed a spot in the USTFCCCA West Region rankings for the first time in two seasons. The Broncos are ranked No. 15 in the west of the Week 2 poll, released Monday.

The team took second place behind Saint Mary's (No. 13) and ahead of Sacramento State in a 7250m race at last Thursday's Speedway duals. Wilder Boyden posted the fastest Bronco time and finished in 7th place. Ryan Greenough, Noah Westfall, Jack Davidson and Ben Davidson also scored for SCU in its second meet of the season.

"We had a good race last week, and this ranking is likely a result of our performance against a very strong Saint Mary's team," associate head coach Pete Cushman said. "The guys have been working hard and we all believe there's plenty more room to move up. It's a good, motivated group with high expectations of the program and themselves as individuals."

"I was pleased with our pack and some of our freshmen and sophomores really performed well today," head coach Felipe Montoro said after the race. "Wilder Boyden, in particular, was awesome. He is just starting to realize how good he can be."

Santa Clara's last regional ranking was on Week 6 (Nov. 3) of the 2014 season. The Broncos were ranked for six consecutive weeks to start off the year.

The team next races in two events on Saturday, Oct. 1 — the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Stanford Invitational in nearby Stanford, Calif.
