Cross Country Hosts Bronco Invitational Saturday

Cross Country Hosts Bronco Invitational Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara cross country will race in its own backyard for the only time this season Saturday morning as host of the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park. There are two invitational races and two open races, with an 8k distance for the men and a 6k distance for the women.

The Broncos have raced in five events on the season, and Saturday's competition is the team's last race before the West Coast Conference Championship. The team had 25 runners set collegiate personal bests at last year's Bronco Invite.

"We are looking forward to another great edition of the Bronco Invite," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "It is a great opportunity for us to compete in front of our alumni, parents and campus supporters against quality competition from many regions."

Santa Clara fields a portion of the 900 total entries for the meet. There are 13 regionally ranked teams (USTFCCCA) between the men's and women's invitational races.

"Saturday also represents our final opportunity to prepare in a race environment for the championship portion of our season," Montoro said. "Both teams have made significant progress in the last two weeks, and I am anticipating great performances from our student athletes on our home course."
