Cross Country Teams Lead WCC in All-Academic Selections

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara cross country continued its strong academic performance by earning 16 spots on the 2016 West Coast Conference All-Academic Teams, announced by the WCC Thursday. Ryan Greenough was named to the All-Academic Team for his third career academic award, which includes a selection to the 2015 All-Academic Team and a 2014 Honorable Mention.

Greenough, a mechanical engineering major, carries a 3.92 GPA. Santa Clara had five other runners earn an accolade for the second time in their careers — Andrew Melendez, Noah Westfall, Karen Mac, Allison Martinez and Marisa Rudolph — while Kaitlyn Kuehn earned her third academic award.

"I'm really proud of everyone's effort in the classroom," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Our team works very hard to maintain the healthiest balance possible between being a student and an athlete."

Between the two teams, Santa Clara had five more runners recognized for their work in the classroom than any other conference program. The men had at least three more runners and the women had at least two more runners honored than any other program.
