Cross Country Wraps up Fall at NCAA West Region Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Santa Clara cross country concluded its fall season Friday morning in the NCAA West Region Meet at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. Freshman Jack Davidson continued his stellar debut season by finishing in 95th overall in the men's 10k and Heather LaPlante led the Bronco women in the 6k.

As a team, the men took 23rd (of 29 teams) and the women took 34th (of 35 teams).

MEN'S 10K

Bronco Scorers: 95. Jack Davidson (31:46.3) 123. Wilder Boyden (32:21.0) 125. Noah Westfall (32:22.5) 137. Ryan Greenough (32:35.3) 155. Andrew Melendez (32:50.7)

"Our men really went for it today, and that was the plan," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "This is a young team that really got after it in a highly-competitive field. They didn't run a conservative race, and while we struggled a bit over the final few kilometers, this race with pay dividends in the years to come.

"Jack Davidson ran an awesome race, especially given that this was his first go at 10k and his 10th career cross country race."

WOMEN'S 6K

Bronco Scorers: 185. Heather LaPlante (22:47.4) 201. Noelani Obermeyer (23:13.5) 206. Hannah Wood (23:29.0) 215. Allison Martinez (23:43.3) 220. Marisa Sanchez (24:07.1)

"Our women's team struggled to find its competitive identity this fall," Montoro said. "The girls were really disappointed in how they competed today. They know they are better than the results indicate. I am, however, genuinely excited about continuing our process of getting better with this group. I love this team — we will be back and we will be better. We are already looking forward to track & field season.

"I am really happy for Heather LaPlante and proud of her effort today. She has struggled with injuries this year and really ran tough."
