Track & Field Announces 2017 Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — On the heels of one of the most successful seasons in program history, Santa Clara track & field announced its 2017 schedule Thursday, released by head coach Felipe Montoro. The Broncos are slated for 10 events from the end of January through the second week of May.

First up is a meet toward the back end of the indoor season at the Washington Invitational on Jan. 27. Santa Clara's first outdoor competition will come in a Quad Meet on Feb. 19 in Orinda, California that features three West Coast Conference foes: Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary's and San Francisco.

The men's and women's teams will navigate a similar schedule to recent seasons. Santa Clara is scheduled to run in eight events that it competed in last year. The Broncos' new ventures are at the Oxy Distance Carnival (March 11) and the Fresno State Bulldog Open (April 22).

All nine of the Bronco outdoor meets are in the state of California. The NCAA West Region Preliminary Meet is slated for May 26-28 in Austin, Texas and the NCAA Championship Meet will be held shortly thereafter from June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.

Last season, the Bronco women broke school records at five distances: 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10000m and 3000m steeplechase. Mary Kriege and Grayson Murphy became the first females to qualify for the NCAA West Region Preliminary Meet in program history; they combined to account for each of the new program-best marks.

On the men's side, Joey Berriatua set school records in the 1500m and 3000m events last year. He is fresh off a redshirt season in cross country.
