AS A JUNIOR (2017-18): (XC) Did not run.

(TRACK) Raced in six track and field meets, competing at 1,500m, 3,000m, and 5,000m … posted a season-best 4:01.15 1,500m at the Sacramento State Open … ran 8:47.92 3,000m at the Bulldog Invitational which was good for first place at the meet and second overall time for the Broncos on the season … clocked a season-best 14:55.23 5,000m at the Oxy Invitational.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2016-17): (XC) WCC Cross Country All-Academic Honorable Mention ... CoSIDA Academic All-America® Nominee ... led the team with a 7.25-kilometer 23:29 for a 7th-place finish at the Speedway Duals ... ran six times ... 8-kilometer season-best 25:30.1 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.

(TRACK) Ran once at 800 meters, twice at 1,500 meters and five times at 5,000 meters ... doubled up for season-best times at 800 meters (2:05.51) and 1,500 meters (4:02.49) at the Woody Wilson Classic ... 1,500-meter time at Woody Wilson was good for 1st in his section and 3rd overall ... 5,000-meter season-best 15:09.69 at the Oxy Invitational.

AS A FRESHMAN (2015-16): (XC) Ran the 8k at the USF Invitational in 26:57.5 in his Bronco debut … ran a 7250m time of 24:31 at the San Francisco State Quad Meet … finished the 8k at the San Francisco State Invitational in 26:15.9 … ran a personal best 8k time of 25:52.7 in the Open race at the Bronco Invitational.

(TRACK) Ran once at 1,500 meters and twice at 5,000 meters in his first season on the track with the Broncos ... 1,500-meter season-best 4:18.45 at the Kim Duyst Invitational ... 5,000-meter season-best 15:37.13 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

PRIOR TO SCU: Graduated from Valley Catholic High School (Portland, Ore.) in 2015 … ran cross country/track and played soccer for the Valiants … high school coaches were Tommy Manning, Ian Berge, Marcia Bomber, Mike Chertude, Eric Berge and Kelsey Manning.   

(XC) Team captain in 2014 … Valiants won back-to-back state championships in 2013-14 … school record holder in the 5000m race … two-time all-state selection (2013-14) … three-time all-district selection (2012-14) … took 2nd place in state in 2014 … 6th place in state in 2013. 

(TRACK) Two-time team captain (2014-15) … state champion in the 1500m and 3000m races in 2015 …  … school record holder in the 3000m race … Valiants took 2nd place as a team in the 1500m state race in 2014 … 4th as a team in the 3000m state race in 2013.

OUTSIDE OF SPORTS: Supported high school junior in Physics and English during concussion recovery … served as host and tour leader at open house and other school events … gave speeches at Catholic middle schools and provided insight on sports and academics … refurbished and resold baseball gloves and vintage razors learned the inner workings of a business e.g. cash-flow management and time commitment … worked in basketry department at Willowbrook Arts Camp … prepared and served food for senior center and homeless center.

PERSONAL: Born in Colorado Springs, Colo. … parents are Bradley Boyden and Marie Del Toro … older sister, Hollynd, is a member of the Santa Clara women’s crew team … hobbies include physics, mathematics, solving Rubik’s cubes, logical puzzles, skimboarding, longboarding, and snowboarding … career goals include earning a Ph.D. in Physics and undergoing research while teaching at a university.

WHY BOYDEN CHOSE SANTA CLARA: "I learned about Santa Clara University when my sister, Hollynd Boyden, Class of 2017, decided to attend it. Like my sister, I am drawn to the study of science, but prefer a liberal arts environment to that of a research university. I want to pursue a physics major, and SCU’s program appeals to me for several reasons: it will allow me to study the subject in small classes, (especially at the upper level), pursue regional opportunities for internships, and work closely with my teachers as I pursue my passion. I want to conduct hands-on research, and I feel SCU will be able to offer me this opportunity, and others, that will develop my career in science. 

When I visited Santa Clara last fall, I stayed overnight in the Communitas Residential Learning Center at Campisi Hall, with my sister. The casual atmosphere of the dorms surprised me. I expected to find a quiet, studious atmosphere where students guarded their privacy; instead I found a casual, warm, and inviting environment where students kept doors open, wandered in search of meaningful conversation, and treated eachother as old friends. I am usually a quiet person, but my visit to Santa Clara showed me how I might grow as a student when I begin college. Instead of shutting my door on the world to study, I am optimistic that Santa Clara will show me a balance among study, socializing, and competing in track and cross country.

Santa Clara was very generous in their giving of aid, and for that reason, along with others, not only am I able to attend, but I consider it a blessing."
