SEATTLE — Jack Davidson began his second year with Santa Clara track & field by collecting his second school record on Saturday afternoon at Dempsey Indoor. The sophomore posted a 3,000-meter time of 8:18.24 and took second place in his section at the UW Invitational.

Davidson's mark bested the previous school record of 8:19.76 set by Joey Berriatua at the 2015 Husky Classic. Last season, Davidson posted the first of his school records with a 5,000-meter 14:23.35 at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Berriatua and Zach Litoff also competed for the Broncos in the first of three indoor events in three weeks.

Berriatua began his final season on the track with a 14:32.42 mark at 5,000 meters, which was good for 10th overall in a field of 54 runners, including third among Division I athletes. His competitive heat included two-time United States Olympic medalist Galen Rupp.

Litoff posted a 14:42.42 in his Santa Clara track & field debut at 5,000 meters - the seventh-fastest time in program history. The freshman's mark landed him at 19th overall in the field of 54.

QUOTABLE

"[Associate head coach Pete Cushman] did a great job managing everyone in Seattle. All three runners competed at a high level and were rewarded with solid marks. We're looking to keep that momentum going into Boise next weekend."

- Head coach Felipe Montoro

NEXT UP

The Broncos continue their indoor stretch of three events in three weeks on Friday and Saturday at the Jackson's Nike Boise Indoor Invite in Nampa, Idaho.
