SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara track & field finishes up its regular season on Saturday at the Portland Twilight and Oxy Invitational. The Broncos, racing for the fifth time in as many weeks, are slotted for three events at Eldon Fix Track in Portland and eight events at Bill Henry Track in Los Angeles.
"We really like going to Oxy," associate head coach Pete Cushman said. "It's a fast track, the fields are always very strong and we've had a good history there with great performances. This will be a last opportunity for a lot of our athletes and we want to make the most of it. If we want anyone joining Joey at prelims, we will need to do it this weekend."

Joey Berriatua posted a 3,000-meter steeplechase program record 8:52.04 at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Thursday night, solidifying a spot in the NCAA West Regional Meet. Less than two months after his first collegiate steeple, Berriatua has set two school records in four tries (9:00.50 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival). He is also the first Bronco to run the event in under nine minutes.
Santa Clara capped a two-meet week by winning one race and four sections at the Sacramento State Open on Saturday. Allison Martinez posted the fastest 5,000-meter time in her field with an 18:46.09 at Hornet Track. Brynn Sargent and Luke Davies each won their respective sections at 800 meters and Greer Chrisman outraced the competition for a section victory in the 400-meter hurdles in the state Capitol.
