PORTLAND, Ore./LOS ANGELES — Joey Berriatua closed out the 2018 track & field regular season by claiming his third Santa Clara record on Saturday afternoon. The redshirt senior posted a 5,000-meter 14:13.33 at Eldon Fix Track as part of the Portland Twilight to add to his program-best marks at 1,500 meters and in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The Broncos had a larger group compete at Bill Henry Track as part of the Oxy Invitational. Santa Clara seniors Will Burschinger, Brynn Sargent, Greer Chrisman, Allison Martinez and Hannah Wood all competed for the final time as Broncos.

"I am incredibly proud of our seniors today," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "Other than Joey, this was their final opportunity to compete for Santa Clara. Every one of them came through with their best efforts and it was really fun to watch.

"I wish Greer had a few more races because she just keeps getting faster. Jean-Baptiste went for the lead at the bell and he closed really well. Joey was aggressive and tough. Brynn ran a great race to win his section and set a personal-best mark. Will came close to winning his 5,000-meter heat as did Hannah at 800. Allison also had a huge PR at 5,000 meters."

Berriatua and Jack Davidson combined to set a program record five times in 2018. Berriatua set the program's 3,000-meter steeplechase record twice while Davidson set the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter program records during indoor season.
