Cross Country Set To Host Bronco Invitational Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara cross country will host the SCU Bronco Invitational Saturday morning at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. in the final action before championship weekend. The meet begins at 8:45 a.m. with the men's collegiate invitational 8-kilometer. The women's collegiate invitational 6-kilometer race gets underway at 9:30 a.m. The men's and women's open races will be at the same distances and start at 10:15 a.m. an 11 a.m., respectively.

"We are looking forward to hosting another edition of the Bronco Invitational," Santa Clara head coach Felipe Montoro said. "The fields are competitive across the board and the conditions are shaping up to be ideal for distance running. There is always such a great turnout to support the teams. Both the men's and women's programs are excited to compete at home and perform in front of friends and family."

Men's College Invitational 8K | 8:45 a.m. | 184 Total Entries | National/Regional Rankings Denoted for Division I Programs

Last time out, Jorge Estrella took 39th place to lead the men in the 8k at the Oregon Bill Dellinger Invitational with a 24:20.8 at Pine Ridge Golf Club on Sept. 28. The Broncos took 13th place in a competitive field of 14 teams and the host Ducks edged BYU and UCLA to win the meet. 

Nicholas Russell (25:11.6 – 98th), James Konugres (25:17.9 – 102nd), Harvey Chilcott (25:29.5 – 108th) and Aditya Mohan (25:32.5 – 110th) scored for the Broncos alongside Estrella while Christian Raslowsky, Spencer Fischer, Brennan Lagerstrom, Drew Burns and Ben Davidson also competed. 

Brendan Jones (26:21.8 – 77th) led a small group of men's runners in the Capital Cross men's 8k open race that featured Connor Lehl, Luke Davies and Ian Kirk.

Women's College Invitational 6K | 9:30 a.m. | 223 Total Entries | National/Regional Rankings Denoted for Division I Programs

Janie Nabholz captured 19th place with a 6k 21:12.9 in the Capital Cross Challenge invitational race and Adelaide Vergnolle finished in 21st with a 6k 22:34.4 in the open race at Haggin Oaks Golf Club the last time out for the women on Sept. 28. The Broncos finished in 10th place (of 40 teams) in the invitational race and fifth place (of 23 teams) in the open race. 

Noelani Obermeyer (21:52.3 – 75th), Hannah Covington (21:57.4 – 82nd), Emma McCurry (21:58.4 – 85th) and Sarah King (22:05.1 – 96th) scored alongside Nabholz in the invitational. Maiya Fujiwara, Hannah Aguirre, Ellie Kopf, Lucie Semone and Claire Cocales also ran for the Broncos in the event.

Greta Anderson (22:55.1 – 37th), Luciana Lenth (22:57.4 – 41st), Hope Olbricht (22:58.7 – 42nd), and Kayla Neumann (23:39.4 – 89th) scored alongside Vergnolle in the open race. Cecilia Avelar, Jackie Cruz, Emma Eikelberner, Kalen Abe, Sasha Codiga, Kaitlyn Twadell and Lacey Yahnke also ran for the team.

There is no charge for admission.

Parking is $6 per car in the Baylands Park lot. Busses can drop off and park off site before returning for pickup. Those attending are encouraged to park in the Baylands lot, not in a lot for any of the local businesses near the park. Parking in any lot other than the Baylands lot is at your own risk. There is no credential required for team staff members nor media.
