Scales Caps Track & Field Season at NCAA West Prelims, Four More Broncos to Race Friday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Santa Clara track & field's Alex Scales saw his impressive spring campaign come to an end on Wednesday night. Scales posted an 800-meter 1:54.32 in the fourth of six heats at the NCAA Championships West Region Preliminary Meet at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

The San Jose native, who made his postseason debut, broke his own 800m program record twice this spring.

"I'm very proud of the progress Alex made this season," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "While today wasn't his best, we learned a lot and will be back in the future."

Four more Broncos are slated to compete at the west prelims on Friday: Jack Davidson, Zach Litoff, Christian Raslowsky and Harvey Chilcott.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP WEST PRELIMINARY MEET SCHEDULE - FRIDAY

Litoff/Chilcott/Raslowsky 3,000m Steeplechase: Quarterfinals 4:10 p.m. PT (three heats, 16 runners per heat, top three times per heat plus next three best times advance to semifinals in Eugene)

Davidson 5,000m: Semifinals 6:30 p.m. PT (two heats, 24 runners per heat, top five times per heat plus next two best times advance to finals in Eugene)
