Johnson's Victory Leads Cross Country at Pacific Collegiate Invitational

LODI, Calif. – The Santa Clara cross country men took fourth with the women finishing in sixth at the Pacific Collegiate Invitational on Friday.

Kyle Johnson finished on top of the leaderboard for the men with a time of 25:36.6, a personal best. Also scoring were Dominic Baciocco (22nd, 26:56.0), EJ Odocayen Cruz (23rd, 27:00.6), Brendan Mulvany (27th, 27:09.5), and Alex Scales (29th, 27:10.8). Also racing was Hayelom Fitsum, Maxwell Nelson, Dion Dupree, and DeVon Dupree. It was also a personal best for Odocayen Cruz, Scales, Fitsum, Nelson, and Devon Dupree.

San Francisco State finished with 44 points to take the team title with the Broncos posting 94 points.

"Kyle ran a smart and patient race for the win, and I thought that Alex Scales showed some real growth in his aerobic fitness," head coach Felipe Montoro said.

Hannah Covington paced the Santa Clara women with a time of 22:54.3, good for 17th. Also scoring were Sophia Morris (40th, 24:16.8), Jasmin Peterman (42nd, 24:23.3), Claire Cocales (47th, 24:37.3), and Erica Julian (58th, 25:15.6). Claire Kennedy also ran. Morris, Julian, and Kennedy all posted career bests.

Rayna Stanziano of Saint Mary's took the individual title with a time of 21:13.1. The Gaels won the team title with 31 points. Santa Clara finished with 153.
