Baseball Begins Season with Weekend Full of Alumni Acitivities

Nov. 12, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball program has planned an alumni weekend around its annual alumni baseball game on January 26.

First-year head coach Mark O'Brien will guide the 2002 Broncos against the Santa Clara Baseball Alumni on Saturday, January 26 at 1 p.m. in Buck Shaw Stadium. The game will be the first test for the Broncos in the 2002 season.

The game itself will be the culmination of an entire weekend of events centered around the baseball alumni.

The alumni weekend will begin on Friday with the First-Annual Baseball Alumni Golf Tournament at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club. The tournament is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a dinner and auction. Cost for the golf tournament is $200 per player.

Saturday's festivities will begin with a home run derby at 11:30 a.m. followed by the game at "The Shaw" which begins at 1 p.m. Following the game there will be an alumni barbeque in Alumni Park located on Stanton Field, which is adjacent to the stadium.

"I hope that all of our baseball alumni see this as something they can take pride in," said O'Brien. "Santa Clara has a rich baseball tradition and I want the alumni to feel a real kinship to this program and have a little fun while re-living some great memories."
