SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara's Joe Diefenderfer was named the West Coast Conference pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon after tossing a complete-game shutout against San Diego over the weekend in Buck Shaw Stadium.

The senior from San Luis Obispo, Calif., led the Broncos to a 6-0 victory in game one of the Sunday doubleheader with USD, allowing only five hits while striking out seven to up his season record to 6-3 on the year. It was the second complete game shutout that he has thrown this season which lowered his season ERA to 3.79.

He leads the Broncos in innings pitched on the season, having thrown 73 2/3 innings of work in 14 appearances. He also leads the team in strikeouts with 61 while having walked only 12 batters all season long.

In WCC play alone, the Broncos are 5-0 in games that he has started, as he has posted a 4-0 record with a 1.62 ERA in those five starts.

Diefenderfer and the Broncos are currently 10-5 in league play, just two games behind Pepperdine for the lead in the WCC Coast Division. They return to action this week with a three-game series at the University of Portland. Thursday's game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m.
