STOCKTON, Calif. - Continuing its season-opening series in Stockton, the Santa Clara baseball team fell 14-6 to the University of Pacific Saturday afternoon at Stockton Ballpark.

Jake Ross went 2-for-5 with a home run and five runs batted in as the Tigers (2-0) used a seven-run first inning and a six-run fourth to put the Broncos (0-2) in a 13-0 hole.

Some of the young Broncos on the squad provided a silver lining to the day as freshman reliever Jeff Lombard struck out four in two-and-one-third innings of work, while Daniel DeMarco struck out a pair in two innings of relief.

On the offensive side of things, freshman Brady Fuerst stroked a pair of singles in going 2-for-2 with two RBIs in his collegiate debut, while sophomore transfer and local Mt. Pleasant High product Gabe Alcantar went 1-for-3 in his first appearance as a Bronco.

Kyle Hartz also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with his second double of the season.

Santa Clara will conclude this three-game series Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. at the Stockton Ballpark as Matt Wickswat takes the hill for the Broncos.
