HILO, Hawaii - The big sticks came out on the big island of Hawaii Saturday afternoon with Eric Newton leading the pack as the Broncos hit four home runs in a 10-4 comeback victory over the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans. The game was shortened to six innings due to lightning and the scheduled second game of the doubleheader was postponed and will be made up as part of a twinbill tomorrow.

The win improves the Broncos' mark to 14-11 on the season while the Vulcans drop to 9-19. Tomorrow's doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m. Pacific time.

Newton was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with six RBIs Saturday while Kris Watts went 2-for-2 with his third homer of the year and Daniel Nava added his second. Dustin Realini was 1-fo-2 with three runs scored as well.

Although three Bronco errors in the first inning allowed the Vulcans to claim a quick 4-0 lead, Santa Clara came roaring back their next time at bat as Newton struck with his fourth homer of the year. His three-run shot following a Realini walk and a Watts single. Nava immediately hit a solo shot to knot things up at four-apiece.

In the top of the third, the Broncos kept it up as with one out and Realini and Watts again on base, Newton once again sent one out of the park to put Santa Clara ahead to stay at 7-3.

Realini started Santa Clara's final rally of the game in the fifth with a single and was driven in right away as Watts smacked his third homer of the year to blow things wide open. A Brady Fuerst single three batters later drove Newton in with the game's final run.

Just prior to the start of the seventh inning, lightning struck and the umpires quickly called the game.
