Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament Central

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Despite a strong pitching performance from senior Cory Hall (2-2), the Santa Clara men's baseball team fell to UW-Milwaukee, 3-0, today in its second game of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament at Schott Stadium.
Despite the loss, Hall (2-2) had another strong performance for the Broncos. He struck out a team season-high eight batters in his 7.0 innings pitched and surrendered three runs on eight hits. Hall's performance was highlighted by a seventh inning when he sent all three batters he faced down swinging. He did not have much help from his offense as the Broncos were limited to just three hits by Milwaukee starter Chad Pierce (1-3).
Milwaukee scored two runs in the second and continued their 2-0 lead through seven innings before adding another run in the eighth. Pierce picked up the win for the Panthers pitching 7.1 scoreless innings and facing 24 batters.
In the eighth inning, Patrick Terry added his second single of the day, but the Broncos were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Viele had Santa Clara's only other hit of the day.
The Broncos will look to bounce back in the final day of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament. Santa Clara plays a double-header tomorrow playing Utah at 11 a.m and UC-Davis at 3 p.m.
Game Notes: Santa Clara was the visiting team for today's tournament game… the first pitch was at 1:02 p.m… In the sixth inning, Matt Ozanne tracked down a ball to deep left center and made a phenomenal catch against the wall… J.R. Graham replaced Cory Hall in the bottom of the eighth...Santa Clara will be the away team for tomorrow's first game agaisnt Utah.
