SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball is on a roll, starting the season at 4-0 for the first time since 2008. With wins over No. 35 Texas State, No. 37 Wichita State at the Bobcat Invitational and a midweek road win at Cal Poly, who had swept Oklahoma State over the weekend, the Bronco baseball team will play its home-opener this Friday at 6 p.m. at Stephen Schott Stadium. New head coach Dan O'Brien, in his first season on the Mission Campus, his coaching staff and players are working hard to sell out the 1,500 seat venue for just the fourth time in its seven-year existence.

"I was surprised to hear that Schott has only sold out a handful of times in seven years, so we're thrilled to hear that ticket sales are going so well for opening night," said O'Brien. "It would be awesome to sell out our first home game to kick off this new generation of Bronco baseball. For their support, we promise to give our Bronco faithful a passionate and energetic effort between the lines."

Among the attractions will be fresh popcorn being popped around the stadium, games for children on the concourse and of course, the undefeated Bronco baseball team in their old-school baggy uniforms.

Junior transfer RHP Tommy Nance (0-0; 5.14) will make the start for the Broncos on Friday. Nance picked up a no-decision in the season-opener at Texas State and went 7.0 innings while allowing seven hits and striking out two.

LHP Max Deering (0-0; 0.00) has been spectacular coming out of the bullpen and has one save. He has appeared in three games and gone 6.2 innings while giving up just three hits and striking out four.

The pitching staff as a whole has a 2.30 ERA in 43.0 innings pitched and has a terrific 34-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Having only allowed 35 hits, the staff's WHIP sits at a tremendous 1.14.

Thus far OF Lucas Herbst and OF Pat Stover are leading the Broncos' offensive attack. Herbst is hitting .471 (8-17) with three doubles. He has also scored five runs and knocked in two.

Stover is 7-20 (.350) and has added three RBI, tied for the team-lead, and five runs scored while also hitting two doubles.

Santa Clara has outscored its opponents 25-12 to open the season and 10 different players have at least one RBI. Twelve different Broncos have recorded at least one hit and 10 have at least two.
