SEATTLE, Wash. - In an extra inning, come-from-behind thriller, Santa Clara baseball beat Seattle 3-2 in the finale of a two-game series. The win  puts Santa Clara at 22-20 while the loss moves Seattle to .500 with a record of 19-19.

Friday night starter RHP Tommy Nance (4-3; 3.16) got the start with the intention of it being a bullpen game for the Broncos. Nance went 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit. While Santa Clara used seven pitchers, it was RHP Paul Twining (4-4; 2.92) who picked up the win while pitching four perfect innings and striking out four. C Quinton Perry went 2-3 with his third home run of the season.

Santa Clara will take the weekend off before returning to the field at San Francisco on Fri., May 11 at 3 p.m. for the first game of a three-game conference series.

Santa Clara got single runners on with one out in the second, third and fourth innings but each time Seattle turned a double play to get out of the inning.

Seattle finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth. RHP Chris Heckert got two quick outs before the Redhawks got a rally for free. 2B Nick Latta hit a ball back to Heckert for what looked like the third out, but Heckert made a throwing error to allow Latta to go to second. LF Bryndon Ecklund followed with a RBI single to center to make the score 1-0 and moved to second on a throwing error by CF Matt Ozanne. CF Marcelino Morales followed with a four-pitch walk but SS Trent Oleszczuk grounded into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

Perry led off the top of the sixth with a single to left field and 3B Evan Peters moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. SS Justin Viele and 2B Greg Harisis both grounded out to third to strand Perry at second.

With LHP Max Deering now on the mound to start the bottom of the sixth, C Brian Olson singled to right field with one out and pinch hitter Sean Narby singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. 3B Nate Roberts flied out to center before pinch hitter Eric Koening walked on four pitches to load the bases with two outs but Deering got Latta to fly out to left to end the inning.

Santa Clara got its lead-off man on for the second straight inning in the top of the seventh when DH Lucas Herbst singled to center. Seattle completed its fourth double play of the day when Ozanne struck out swinging and Herbst was caught stealing. Stover lined out to shortstop for the third out.

Deering walked Morales with one out in the seventh inning. After Morales stole second, Oleszczuk was hit by a pitch and Deering was lifted for RHP Chris Mendoza. RF Ryan Somers greeted Mendoza with a RBI single to center field to extend the lead to 2-0. Mendoza recovered to get a 4-6-2 double play off the bat of Olson to end the inning with just one run coming across.

After two quick outs in the bottom of the eighth, Perry smoked a homer to left field to get Santa Clara on the board and make the score 2-1 in favor of Seattle.

Down to its final three outs, Santa Clara rallied to tie the score in the top of the ninth. Viele led things off with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Harisis. Herbst came to the plate and smacked a single back up the middle to tie the game at 2-2. Ozanne followed with a single to right but was erased when Stover hit into a fielder's choice. After Stover stole second RF Stephen Takahashi grounded out to third for the final out.

Viele got the offense going again in the 11th when he singled through the left side to lead things off. With Harisis at the plate Viele stole second to put the go-ahead run in scoring position with no outs. Harisis walked and Herbst grounded out to the shortstop but he advanced both runners. After an intentional walk to Ozanne, Stover hit into a fielder's choice that brought in the go-ahead run and made the score 3-2. Takahashi grounded back to the pitch for the third out.

Twining got Seattle to go down in order in the bottom of the 11th to cap the comeback win for Santa Clara.
