SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Recently two Santa Clara athletes, Powell Fansler and Jessica Turner attended the NCAA's National Leadership Forum in Dallas, Texas. The two Santa Clara representatives were two of just 300 NCAA athletes selected to attend the event.

Both Fansler and Turner are juniors on the Mission campus. Fansler is a pitcher for the Bronco baseball team where last year he received WCC Pitcher of the Month honors during February. He tallied a total of 18 appearances during his sophomore campaign in 2011-12. Turner is a pitcher on the Santa Clara softball team and led the team in both innings pitch (117.0) and appearances (33).

The two Broncos attended the forum and came away learning leadership tactics and strengthening their leadership roles on their respective teams.

"I thought it was very good to get other people's feedback about the kind of leader I was," said Turner. "It was good to see that you have all these qualities you aren't aware of. It was good for self-recognition."

The Broncos came back with new ways to communicate with their teammates and also new thoughts about how to help Santa Clara's Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

"[The forum helped me] create new contacts and new friends," said Fansler.
