Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: Michael Westra

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball introduces future Bronco Michael Westra from Scottsdale, Arizona. Westra attended Brophy College Prep in Phoenix where he was coached my Tom Succow and Matt Hooten.

"I chose Santa Clara because it was the perfect fit for me," said Westra. "It has a great baseball program with the nicest, craziest and most entertaining coaches I have ever met. The players have created a brotherhood while welcoming others. I felt like I was already on the baseball team when visiting. Apart from baseball, the campus is unbelievably nice and maintained and the academics are well respected and challenging."

In 2012 Westra's high school team was the 2012 D1 runner-up and was ranked No. 16 in the nation by Maxpreps Freeman. As a junior he was All-State Honorable Mention as well as being named to the All-Horizon Tournament Team. He tossed 52.o innings with 45 strikeouts and 17 walks. Westra posted a 6-1 record to go along with a 1.92 ERA.

Off the field Westra was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the National Arts Honor Society and the Boy's Team Charity. Both parents, David and Susan, are graduates of USC and he has two siblings, Jack and Allison.

In his free time Westra enjoys wakeboarding, playing video games and playing basketball.
