Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: Seaver Whalen

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing to introduce its signing class, Santa Clara baseball introduces Seaver Whalen of Camas, Wash. Whalen attended Union High School where he was coached by Tom Lampkin and Maco Hamilton.

"Santa Clara's great coaching staff, education, facilities and team philosophy easily made it my top choice," said Whalen. "I love how the whole baseball team gets along and I feel like the plans to win a National Championship are very important. The great weather was just a bonus and I am looking forward to beating my older brother when we play Portland. I am proud to be a Bronco and look forward to next year."

As a junior Whalen played shortstop and committed just one error on the year while batting .325 with seven doubles, two triples and one home run. He was named All-League for his performance. As a sophomore Whalen hit .350 with four doubles and a triple while helping to lead his team to the league championship. Whalen played second base and committed no errors in the field. His freshman year saw his team take fifth place in state.

Outside of high school baseball Whalen played for the NW Kansas City Royal Area Code team and the Seattle Mariners Fall Scout team. He hit .450 with three home runs, five triples, 14 doubles, 18 stolen bases and 48 RBI. His team went 19-11 and finished in second place in the playoffs.

Whalen's father Shawn played baseball in the San Diego Padres organization and his mother Lisa Osborn played volleyball at the University of Utah. He has four siblings, the oldest of which, Caleb, plays baseball at the University of Portland.

When he is not playing baseball Whalen worked at the Share House, served food to the poor over Christmas and was a mentor at school. His hobbies and interests include baseball, basketball, swimming, fishing and cars.
